: in this challenge you will consider what makes a great digital photographic image for a school web home page and then produce one!
It will then become part of the images used in our dynamic KCSS web page.Every institute has a public image for example a hospital might have one of caring, professionalism, as well as up to date practice and technology while the RCMP might have an image of integrity tradition and determination.
What image does a school, .... lets just say for example KCSS want to project to fellow students, parents, new teachers and the community?Reflect on these thoughts for a moment and list what types of images you might be able to capture and digitally render that will strengthen, enhance, and preserve the image and reputation of your alma mater (mother spirit). Think of them also in terms of the 3 pillars of KCSS's long range goals :
Literacy/Numeracy. Safe Schools, and Character EducationNow where and how can you capture pictures that will possibly be suitable for this need.
Possible sources of images are:
classes, labs, gyms, shops, outside at lunch, halls, offices, sports events, field trips, clubs, library, in fact almost anywhere King City Students are involved in education.Composition : Good images will have among other qualities ..... good composition. Like the grammar in a sentence your image should have components that tell the viewer something special something about ours school's special character.
It should contain a subject and the subject should clearly be involved in some action ranging from study to pure joy.Go out and take numerous pictures and stopping only when you feel you have a "keeper".
Initial Rendering : after you select one of the many pictures that you have taken to possibly use ( its lucky to get 1 in 10 good pictures) you should correct over qualities Enhance> auto enhance , colour , brightness/contrast etc. then you are ready to further edit your image.
Crop : your image to centre the subject and remove unneeded background material.
Size : your image to these dimensions so that it will make a clean fit in the allocated cell of the homepage. In this case the dimensions are:
Width: 220 pixels
Height: 160 pixelsBackgrounds : you may find it appropriate to place a new background behind your subject either because the original background is distracting, boring or plain ugly. This will naturally highlight the subject and give it prominence.
Another way to handle backgrounds is to cut out and mask the subject (select > inverse) and then desaturate the background and give it a blur to de-emphasize the subject in the background.
While you are at it you might want to saturate the foreground subject ( with the saturation sponge or enhance >colour> saturate)
Composite images: although it might be a challenge to work with such a small image this way you may want to work with multiple layers to produce an amazing composite image. Finally : after you have completed your masterpiece and feel it is ready for publishing to the web submit and I will show you how it is installed into the random banner generator JavaScript in the HTML source code of the KCSS web site.
