Step 2 Translation of Genetic Code

1) Ribosome subunits bind to the 5" cap of mRNA and
then translation of the genetic code begins.
- A/acceptor site holds tRNA
- P/peptide site links A/As together

2) AUG the starter/METH codon initiates building of the polypeptide

3) tRNA with the methionine anticodon (complimentary) delivers the first AA at the P site

4) the second codon is now in the P site and the correct tRNA delivers the next AA and a peptide bond is formed between the adjacent AA in the ribosome.
- the first tRNA (start/METH) is released to pick up another METH

5) Elongation of the protein continues until a STOP codon is reached UAA/UGA/UAG
- the Ribosome shuts down transcription

6) Release Factor protein starts ribosome disintegration and subsequent release of the new protein

7)
The protein folds and is modified and taken to the site of need
