Who - this trip is open to senior science students

All participating students will: undertake the required reading, exam, swim test, and log book.
grade 12 bio students can use exercise as credit towards ISP ( speak to your teacher) , complete assignments due in courses before departure



Dates   2009

Trip Mission - to explore the connections between classroom science theory and several interconnected ecosystems as well as the human impact upon them .
Ecosystems - the water that originates in the Everglades, fringing mangrove swamps, Florida Bay, and the Caribbean coral reefs are part of a contiguous system that must be protected as a whole

Cost - $1850 payable to KCSS  includes tax flights, airport tax, ground transportation, travel medical insurance, cost of all activities and required equipment, NOT food, in other words all expenses covered except food and personal items

Where - jet to Fort Lauderdale then we travel cross country across south Florida to Flamingo in the "Glades" later off to Marathon in the Keys and finally Key West at the southern tip of the island chain and then back to Fort Lauderdale  via Miami.

Day 1>
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea  exam orientation high energy beach swim orientation fine dining

Day 2 > Taylor Birch Park hardwood hammock study.   Everglades, Royal Palm Centre, overnight in cabins in     Flamingo, astronomical views of the Andromeda Galaxy, night alligator hike

Day 3 > explore various aspects of Everglades, travel out to Keys to Marathon: BlackFin Resort, open water snorkel school @ Sombrero beach, night plankton study

Day 4
> Open water snorkel in coral reefs 6 miles off shore

Day 5 > Dolphin Research Centre then off to Key West  for the evening Reef Relief , Key West Aquarium

Day 6 > Sombrero Beach then Smathers Beach
back to Key West for sail aboard schooner Reef Chief for snorkel to new location in Reef Sanctuary

Day 7 > travel back to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea various sites along way

Day 8 > pack up relax on beach head home later....
