Creating Hypertext Links

Hyperlinks are strands of text that are usually identified by a different colour text.  They may be a section of a map or other graphic :or a hot spot ( such as Gutenberg's Press above, try it!)  that when <clicked on> take you to another file usually on the Internet and sometimes to another page in a local document.

Hypertext linking is what created the World Wide Web (1990) long after the Internet (1969) was created in response to Sputnik (1957).

HTML the code that operates the Net stands for Hypertext Mark-up Language.

Because you could jump from one Internet site to another, a new human behavior known as "Surfing the Net" was born.

To create a hypertext link simply highlight the text that serves as the jump off spot and then click on the hypertext link button on your tool bar

(it is a globe with a chain )

For example:The history of the internet is fascinating.”
(try clicking on the blue text and learn some communications history!)

> Next click on the insert hyperlink button ...  its the Globe with a little chain

>The edit hyperlink box will come up and you can type the name of the URL in the address box, or you may select from the box below if you have recently visited that site!

Now when you click on this new link you will be transported to that file on the Internet, your computer, or network!

Remember you can use hyperlinks for linking files on the NET your hard drive or your floppy disk!!

portfolio can be created using an Index Page that is comprised of a list of Hyperlinks pointing at your projects.
