DNA REPLICATION

Meselson and Stahl determined that DNA replicates in a semi conservative manner that is that the individual strands replicate a complimentary strand. Thus only one half of the original parent strand of DNA is conserved in each daughter strand (2)
They used ¹⁵N (heavy) and ¹⁴N (light) and centrifuge techniques in their study.

Note how the old DNA parent strands are conserved as 2 new halves are created in the daughter strands

This is called the semi conservative method of replication.
